Everyday Matters Challenge: #12 Draw your dinner

Thursday, May 12, 2005

5_12_a

I drew my lunch instead. I had to draw it really fast because I was drooling down my shirt. I bought new water color pencils, that I have no idea how to use, but I was too impatient to test them like a sensible adult. I messed up a little, but I thought this was a pretty good first try.

Avocado/vegetarian rolls are a recent food discovery for me that I just love. Do to a severe fish allergy real sushi is a forbidden food, and no other options were ever explored. I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never been to a Japanese restaurant. But thanks to Whole Foods Markets I can enjoy the exotic flavors of wasabi and pickled ginger without turning into a one giant suffocating hive.

Your lunch looks great, even though I really don't like sushi myself. The watercolour pencils have worked well for you as my idea of this kind of meal would be quite colourful.

I have found that I am a bit heavy handed with the pencils in the first place so that when I brush them with the waterbrush, the colours are too 'in-your-face'. I wonder if the trick is to start out softly and then add layers of pencil where a deeper colour is needed.

I have tried wetting the paper first and then colouring with the pencils over the water. It achieves a different effect.

Wow, this drawing is excellent. Very colourful and clear. I know what you mean about the drooling thing, I can't leave the food alone long enough to draw it. Hence I still haven't done this challenge. Great stuff.

This makes me so happy--what beautiful colors and lots of fun detail and great chopsticks,by the way, and... I just like all of it. Whatever you're doing, I vote for you keep on doing it ;D.

Beautiful detail and subtle color. I want to dive right in!

Am wearing sushi-patterned socks today, so it was extra fun to see your post. Keep the drawings/paintings coming. Yum.
