Oh what a lovely day to go for a swim in the Queen’s Bath. (photo: Andrew Doughty)
Hi Carumba! It’s gone!
It’s still there, but far too dangerous for a swim.
At the Lu’au
Hmmm I see some similarities here.
Imu Ceremony: the removal of a baked pig. It was delicious.
Halfway through our holiday we decided to attend a Hawaiian tradition the Lu’au. We were told (by more experienced island visitors) not to bother with the cheesy Lu’aus, but to be contrary I thought we should at least experience it once. Frankly, we had a great time. Even if the mai tais were watered down. Sorry fellas no pics of the hula girls.
Five Facts about the Hula
- Evolved as a means of worship, later becoming a forum for telling stories.
- The missionaries found the hula distasteful causing old style hula to be driven underground.
- Both men and women participate.
- Old style hula (also called 'olapa) takes years of training
- Kaua'i was the home of the most prestigious hula school in all the islands.
