Illustration Friday’s topic is sorrow. There was plenty to go around this week in SoCal with the record rainfall. My idea is a combination of photographs posted on news sites.
As a 3rd generation SO CAL inhabitant I lend the following nursery rhyme: The foolish man built his house upon the sand. The rains came down and the floods came up and the house on the sand washed away. The wise man built his house upon the rock. The rains came down and floods came up and the house on the rock stood firm. Every year folks who choose to build in fire traps and flood zones dare to live where the SoCAL beauty is at it's most dramatic and they gamble they will be safe from nature. But nature has her way. I feel saddness for them, but in the back of my mind I cannot help but know they also knew where they were building when they built (or bought). It's a annual shame.
