A long time ago, I must admit I was a TV junkie. I whiled away oodles of hours watching the colorful orb of poop culture. My brain is permanently etched with long gone jingles, Brady Bunch trivia and the theme song to Gilligan’s Island. My affliction was so bad, I’m afraid my last words will be, “the professor and Mary Ann are here on Gilligan’s Isle.” My hobby was relaxing after a hard day at the office, but I did have a forlorn sense of time lost. Did I just watch three hours of sitcoms, two hours of drama, one hour of news and then the late show?? Yup, I did and it drove my TV disapproving husband crazy.

Not to worry, this sad story of visual media abuse did not end in disaster or divorce. I was very slowly weaned off the boob tube and my time (for the most part) is now spent more constructively. It helps to have a half broken down TV with only two fuzzy channels to curb your enthusiasm (ooh love that show). In moments of weakness, when the craving for the low-brow overcomes my will-of-steal (ha-ha), I head for the Internet for an hour or so of relaxing netertainment.
