Nerd Alert: 200 Year Anniversary of The Battle of Trafalgar
Monday, September 26, 2005
Two years ago I gave Andrew a subscription to National Geographic as a Christmas present. I have to say I really enjoy the gift that keeps on giving. After poring over the fabulous photos and reading a few of the articles, Andrew receives his gift rumpled and dog-eared. Sorry dear, you're just going to have to beat me to the mailbox one of these days.
Anyway, October's issue marks the 200 anniversary of The Battle of Trafalgar with a dramatic article that I think would make a great movie. Although I've been to London a few times, I never knew the significance of Trafalgar Square or why this battle was so important to British history. Perhaps they tried to teach me this in school many eons ago, but hey, I had other things on my mind—I was a teenager after all. The article explains, sparing no blood-and-guts details, how Lord Admiral Nelson annihilated Napoleon's fleet. If you enjoy a good story and a bit o' history, mate, have a look. You won't be disappointed.
