Downtown LA: It’s Worth Restoring
Saturday, May 26, 2007
Sights and sounds on the way to the Orpheum.
Rooftop Marquee of the Orpheum Theatre
Eastern Columbia building.
North by Northwest, great to see on the big screen.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Downtown Los Angeles has seen better days, but thanks to groups like the Los Angeles Conservancy the finer buildings are being restored. Many of the buildings, such as the Eastern Columbia, have been converted to luxury lofts for very fashionable people. The theatres on Broadway (the original) are being restored into the grand entertainment palaces they once were in the "good old days". I don’t know why the city of Los Angeles abandoned its’ architectural achievements to the mercy of old man time, but it’s good to see not all is lost.
